Grants and Scholarships

Scholarships Information

The KCC Foundation, a nonprofit established in 1982, provides scholarships and support for Kingsborough students, faculty, and programs. Scholarships are available year-round for eligible students needing financial help. Applying does not guarantee an award—applications are reviewed by a scholarship committee.

Scholarship Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled and matriculated
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • You must submit a typed 500-word personal statement that includes the following: Why did you choose your current major and your intended career path? Any financial challenges you are currently facing? How do you plan to use the scholarship funds if awarded? A “Plan of Action” explaining how you intend to cover these expenses in the future.

Awards depend on available funds and donor agreement

All About Scholarships

Disclaimer:

Scholarships are not created by or on behalf of Kingsborough Community College. The College does not discriminate based on sex, gender identity or expression, race, ethnicity, or national origin.

Scholarships are an alternative source of funding for education and do not need to be repaid. Most are awarded based on academic achievement, merit, or financial need. While some scholarships require a minimum GPA or proof of financial need, not all do.

Other criteria may include cultural background, field of study, special skills, community involvement, or organizational affiliations. Students may apply for and receive multiple scholarships without restriction.

Most university and external scholarship funds are automatically applied to students' accounts unless the awarding agency chooses to give the check directly to the student or send it to the Bursar’s Office. If you receive a check directly, you must notify the Financial Aid Office.

In addition, the College shares information about external, non-Foundation scholarship opportunities, some of which may consider factors such as race or gender in accordance with the criteria set by the sponsoring organization. Kingsborough Community College does not discriminate on the basis of sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, or national origin. Please note that these external scholarships are not affiliated with the KCC Foundation and are not overseen by the College. Students are encouraged to use discretion and conduct due diligence when exploring these opportunities.

Helpful Hints: There are specific deadlines for scholarship applications, so it's important that students contact the sponsoring organizations early to confirm deadlines, obtain applications, and submit them on time.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) advises students and parents to be cautious of scholarship and financial aid scams. Be sure to review tips on how to avoid these scams when searching for external scholarships.
