April 2, 2019 - Helping define excellence for community colleges nationwide, Kingsborough Community College was recognized in an award ceremony in Washington, D.C. as one of the top community colleges nationally in the 2019 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. During the ceremony at the Newseum, Kingsborough was honored for its holistic approach to supporting students in and out of the classroom, and for achieving a 49 percent student transfer rate, which is 17 percentage points above the national average.

November 19, 2018 - Kingsborough Community College has been chosen as the first official host site for EmpoweredNYC within The City University of New York, an initiative between the college’s Single Stop office and the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs’ Office of Financial Empowerment. The program will provide financial counseling services to students with disabilities and those experiencing difficulties with Social Security Insurance Disability (SSI/D), Medicaid, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, credit card debt, student loans, etc.

April 12, 2017 - For individuals with chronic illnesses such as high-blood pressure and diabetes, the need for qualified kidney care professionals is essential for people living with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or kidney failure. To fill this service gap, Kingsborough Community College (KCC) partnered with Dialysis 4 Career, which provides educational opportunities in hemodialysis training to offer its new Hemodialysis Technician & Exam Prep course. This 100-hour course provides students with comprehensive training to become Certified Hemodialysis Technicians (CHT).

March 31, 2017 - Kingston, Jamaica native, and Kingsborough Community College sophomore Tatyana Mills was named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Outdoor National Athlete of the Week on March 28. The award was given by U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Tatyana earned the award for her performance at the Winthrop ADIDAS Invitational this past weekend.

March 30, 2017 - The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System awarded national recognitions to two Kingsborough Community College alumni for their outstanding work at 90.3FM WKRB. The announcement was made at the annual IBS Conference in early March. Lamark Plaskett, a 2016 Media Arts graduate was a finalist for Best Specialty Show, “The Fresh Movement”. Elissa Nieves, a 2006 Broadcasting & Technology Management major was named Best Program Director. Their submissions were among college and high school proposals nationwide.

ACCREDITATION EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
March 27, 2017 –Kingsborough Community College (KCC) President Farley Herzek announced that the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) has accredited Kingsborough Community College’s Emergency Medical Services – Paramedic program effective immediately. In 2013, the New York State Department of Health Bureau of EMS approved the KCC Paramedic Program, which is part of the Nursing Department, making it the first college-based EMS-Paramedic program in Brooklyn. Its first class graduated in 2015.

December 16, 2016 - State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud recently toured the site for Kingsborough Community College’s proposed Student Union & Intercultural Center. October 20, 2016 - The Northfield Bank Foundation has awarded Kingsborough Community College a $20,000 grant to provide $500 scholarships for 40 students from Staten Island and select areas of Brooklyn who demonstrate financial need and are in good academic standing, allowing them to stay in school and achieve their educational goals.

UNDERGRADUATE TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP
May 27, 2016 – Kingsborough Community College student Kate Maziarz has been awarded a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship worth up to $40,000 a year to complete a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university. The Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is the largest private scholarship in the nation for students transferring from two-year community colleges to four-year institutions that award bachelor’s degrees. Only 75 community college students were selected from a competitive nationwide pool this year. Maziarz is the 4th Kingsborough awardee in 3 years.
