Want to enroll in a career training program at low to no cost AND earn college credits?

Exciting News!!! New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) now allows continuing education students interested in pursuing career training in specific programs to apply for financial aid. Students enrolled in the qualified programs at Kingsborough Community College (KCC) can now apply for TAP to pay for tuition. An annual TAP award can be up to $5,665; however, it cannot exceed program tuition. TAP is a grant – it does not have to be paid back. New York State students attending the eligible programs at KCC can now apply for these funds - even retroactively! Which means, you may qualify for money back for tuition you already paid, check eligibility requirements below:

Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Certificate Program

The Emergency Medical Technician -Basic Program offers a program of emergency medical services training at the certificate level as is designed to equip students with necessary skills and knowledge to become certified EMTs. The program’s goal is to prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians-Basics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. This program prepares students to sit for the NYS EMT-Basic examination and the national Registry Exam, which is required to begin work in this field within the state(s) where students are located and provides clinical experience to get students acclimated to the EMS field.

Students must complete all required class components of didactic coursework, hands-on labs, as well as minimum of 24 hours of clinical rotations on NYC 911 providing ambulance. Qualified graduates will have the option to be on a direct path to become a Paramedic through the paramedic program and/or apply the 6 college credits towards a college degree.

Eligibility requirements:

• • Must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass a pre-registration screening placement exam (reading comprehension exam)

 

Child Development Associate Program

The 140-hour Child Development Associate Program (CDA) provides coursework on teaching young children in infant-toddler, preschool, and family daycare settings. The program participants will consider developmentally appropriate and responsive practices for working with culturally and linguistically diverse children and families. The program will equip educational professionals with a wide range of early childhood resources, models, methods, and techniques for integrating these topics and skills into their classrooms through evidence-based pedagogy to facilitate the development of all children. This credential is appropriate for Family Daycare Providers, Daycare Workers, Preschool Teachers & Assistant Teachers.

Health and Wellness Coach Certificate Prep Program

The National Board of Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) approved this health and wellness coach training program. The program prepares students to become health and wellness professionals, emphasizing health and wellness coaching. Students will gain knowledge and skills to help clients and patients explore their own journeys in health and wellness and address barriers and facilitators of their health behaviors. Students will learn to recognize risk factors for chronic diseases and apply comprehensive, evidence-based approaches in health promotion and disease prevention. The program focuses on techniques used to motivate individuals from various backgrounds and perspectives to adopt various psychosocial and practical approaches that enhance health and wellness, such as goal setting, mindfulness, the development of self-efficacy, self-compassion, and self-actualization. The certificate course allows for the potential of 6 college credits to be transferred into the college when a student applies and matriculates at Kingsborough Community College for an Associate of Science degree.

Community Health Worker Certificate Program

This 144 Learning Hours (Traditional) / 90 Learning Hours (Up-Skilling) The Community Health Worker Certificate Training Program is a contextualized program that provides instruction and activities to build academic skills while preparing students to enter or advance in the workplace as a CHW. This program prepares CHW's to serve as frontline outreach advocate and liaison service providers linking individuals and community to facilitate access to health and human services and improve the value and quality of cultural competence in human service care delivery. CHW's work in clinics and community-based settings providing individual, familial and community outreach, health education, informal counseling, social support, direct care coordination, advocacy and case management for service and referrals that establish and promote individual and community self-sufficiency and health capacity. The certificate course allows for the potential of 12 college credits to be transferred into the college when a student applies and matriculates at Kingsborough Community College for an Associate of Science degree.
