Program Name: CLIP (CUNY Language Immersion Program)

Updated 7.31.24 Program Description: CLIP (CUNY Language Immersion Program) is a theme-based program that helps English as a Second Language learners prepare for university study. The emphasis of the program is on reading and writing for academic purposes. Students in the CLIP program work intensively 25 hours per week to improve reading, writing, and academic skills, and develop computer and research skills in a computer lab. Program Eligibility Requirements: The program is for ESL students who are accepted to the City University of New York (CUNY). Students who attend the program are expected to attend City University after completing CLIP. The program is voluntary for entering college freshmen. Students are placed according to evaluation of the the Accuplacer diagnostic writing test, which determines placement in college credit or ESL courses, or the CLIP program. Program Benefits: Students have an opportunity to improve their English language skills without using their financial aid. Students may remain in the program for a maximum of 900 hours: 300 hours (Fall); 150 hours (Winter); 300 hours (Spring); and 150 hours (Summer). Registration is available for either day or evening classes. Cost: Spring and Fall semesters (12 weeks): $145; Summer and Winter semesters (6 weeks): $75 |

Updated 7.31.24 Program Description: KELI is an intensive, academic theme-based program that enables English language learners to improve their verbal and written English, and to develop the necessary skills to prepare for college. The theme- and project-based learning encourages students to explore aspects of American culture, and to develop critical-thinking and organizational and computer-based research skills that will be used in college. Program Eligibility Requirements: The Kingsborough English Language Institute (KELI) program is available to anyone (including visa F-1 students) interested in preparing for college study. Program Benefits: KELI Program benefits include: Customized class placement; 25 hours per week of
intensive study; field trips and class activities; certificate of attendance (for

Program Name: Comprehensive High School Equivalency (HSE) Program

Develop skills in math, social studies, science, reading, and writing in preparation for the TASCTM exam. Program Eligibility Requirements: Students must be at least 18 years of age to enroll and at least 19 years of age to take the NYS examination. All students enrolled in the HSE program must pass the Official Assessment Readiness Test before taking the TASCTM exam. Program Benefits: Learn test-taking strategies to prepare for the Official Assessment Readiness Test (required to be eligible to take the NYS TASCTM exam). Program Name: “Diploma Now” Alternative High School Equivalency (AHSEP) Preparation Program

Program Description: Targeted to out-of-school youth interested in earning their High School Equivalency diploma, this intensive full-time program provides academic preparation for taking the TASCTM exam. Program Eligibility Requirements: Students must be 17 ½ - 20 years of age; to be eligible, students must also score at a 9.0 grade reading level or higher on the TABE test, and write an essay. Each student (or parent/guardian) is required to sign a Student Responsibilities Form at the commencement of classes. Program Benefits: Learn test-taking strategies to prepare for the Official Assessment Readiness Test (required to be eligible to take the NYS TASCTM exam). Cost: $100 per semester. |

Program Description: The Venture V Program for SNAP Participants provides job preparation and job placement services to eligible candidates who can demonstrate that they are actively seeking employment. Depending upon individual employment goals, free programs may be available in English as a Second Language (ESL) and High School Equivalency (HSE), in addition to selected training and certificate programs to qualifying participants. Training and certificate programs include Certified Nurse Aide (CNA); Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); Certified Home Health Aide (HHA); Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS); Pharmacy Technician; and Paralegal; Accounting; and Direct Support Professional (DSP) programs. PLEASE NOTE: Before being accepting into a training program, participants are required to take a placement test. Program Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible, applicants must have applied for, or receive, non-TANF-funded SNAP benefits. If an applicant receives Family Assistance, they may not be eligible. Applicant eligibility is verified during an in-person interview and program registration. Program Benefits: Training programs may be available to selected candidates to assist them in developing job skills for growing sectors of the workforce. Participants receive assistance in the development of a resume, and interviewing skills, and counseling, referrals, and job placement services. Cost: Free to eligible applicants. |
Program Name: Contextualized Free ESL & Food Handlers Program

Program Description: Targeted to ESL learners, the ESL/Food Handlers Program focuses on helping the students improve their English, learn cooking techniques and food preparation skills, and study for the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and nationally-recognized ServSafe certifications, in preparation for careers in the food services industry. The program incorporates ServSafe and NYC Department of Health (DOH) Food Handler certification practices, covering health and safety during hands-on food preparation. Program Eligibility Requirements: Students must be English language learners demonstrating a moderate/high level of English language skills. Program Benefits: Free this program (to eligible applicants) prepares students to take the industry-recognized DOH and ServSafe certifications, and assists students with the development of a resume and interviewing skills, and provides counseling, referrals, and job placement services. Cost: Free to eligible applicants. |
Program Name: ESL Part-time Evening and Weekend Courses
Program Description: The part-time courses offer graduated levels of evening classes (Mon and Wed; or Tue and Thurs); or on Sat or Sun, for students who are unable to attend during the week. The courses comprise interesting instructional content designed for all adults, including 3 hours of computer instruction.
Program Eligibility Requirements: Adult English language learners interested in acquiring or developing listening and speaking skills in English, in addition to reading and writing.
Program Benefits: Flexible hours available during the week or weekend to accommodate part-time students. Students are tested and placed in the level most appropriate to their standard of English. The course includes 3 hours of computer instruction for levels 3-8.
Cost: Evening classes: $200; Saturday or Sunday classes: $150.

Program Name: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
Program Description: Become a certified Phlebotomy Technician by taking this comprehensive, hands-on program. Live needle sticks performed. Students must sign an Assumption of Risk. (127 clock hrs)

Program Description: This program is aimed at individuals who are either currently employed or seeking employment in a healthcare provider’s office, health insurance company, or independent billing, and who want to become a certified Medical Billing & coding Specialist. (180 clock hrs)

Program Name: Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Intensive
Program Description: A Certified Nurse Aide assists Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Registered Nurses RNs with direct patient care. This demanding, yet exciting program will prepare you for an entry-level position in a nursing home or hospital facility. (135 clock hours- 96 hrs classroom, 32 hrs Supervised clinical experience, & hrs CPR)

Program Name: Certified Home Health Aide (HHA)
Program Description: The number of jobs available to Certified Home Health Aides will increase tremendously by 2020, making HHA’s one of the most in-demand professionals. Home Health Aides (HHA) provide professional health care in a patient’s home environment. Patient’s range from elderly, to disabled to chronically-ill individuals who do not require hospitalization. This course is the perfect complement for students who completed Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) training. (82 clock hours)

Program Name: Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS)
Program Description: Using Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, you will learn the basics of entering health information including: clinical decision support tools, physician order entry screens and electronic prescribing. This course teaches students how to define, formulate and interpret health information from an actual EHR software, as well as arrange and create detailed workflows.

Program Name: Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT/A)
Program Description: Patient Care Technicians (PCT) work alongside doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers to oversee and monitor patients. Kingsborough’s PCT training provides students with the basic hands-on skills necessary to perform or obtain diagnostic testing and perform direct patient care. Builds on the foundations of our Certified Nurse Aide Intensive program. Students enrolled must have CNA license.
