Dreams Begin Here and Continue When You Transfer

It’s never too early to begin creating your transfer plan. Planning early allows you to:

1) meet application and scholarship deadlines
2) select courses at KBCC that may meet pre-requisite requirements at your 4-year college.
3) create a portfolio if needed

You should submit your application 6 to 12 months before you plan to transfer. Typically, by the end of your second to last semester.  It’s important to check individual college deadlines & start preparing your application & documents ready.

It's recommended to complete your associate degree before transferring to a bachelor's program. This allows you to build academic skills, explore your career interests, and save on tuition. Having an associate degree also opens up more job and internship opportunities and increases the likelihood of completing your bachelor's degree. CUNY to CUNY transfer increases the transferability of credits.

There is no “best” school to transfer to as this depends on each student’s preferences. You should consider how your credits will transfer to the new college, if they have your major available, tuition cost, location, in person vs fully online, availability of courses & scheduling. Figure out what’s important to you & begin your exploration.

If you are applying to transfer to a CUNY school, you are not required to submit your official transcript as they can access it on CUNYfirst. Applying to non-CUNY schools, click this link to request an official transcript.

Transfer credit policies vary by institution.  In general, remedial/ developmental courses will not transfer.  Most four-year require a C or better in a course in order to transfer. Courses without course equivalencies may not transfer but vary by campus. CUNY to CUNY transfer, all earned credits will transfer.

For CUNY-to-CUNY Transfer, use CUNY Transfer Explorer (T-Rex) to learn how your credits will apply to your new major.  For Non-CUNY institutions, requesting an unofficial transfer credit evaluation with the Admissions Office is the best way to learn how your courses will transfer. It’s important to ask how the courses will apply to your major

It is normal for students to change their academic majors when pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Keep in mind that changing your major may result in an increased number of course requirements for the new major.

There are limits to how many semesters you can receive financial aid.  Speak with a KCC financial aid advisor to learn how many semesters of aid you have left. FAFSA is federal aid while TAP is state aid and can ONLY be applied to colleges in NY state.

While your GPA will reset when you start at a new school, the grades in which you received in certain courses may be used reviewed for course and program pre-requisites.
