Transferring
How does CUNY Common Core/Pathways affect your transfer to a CUNY senior college?
Once you fulfill a Core requirement at one CUNY college, these general education credits
will fulfill the same Core category when you transfer to another CUNY college. For
example, if you pass BIO 1 at Kingsborough, it will satisfy the Core requirement for
Life and Physical Sciences; therefore, if you transfer to Brooklyn College, your Life
and Physical Sciences category will be fulfilled.
If you complete the CUNY Common Core, do you need more general education requirements
when you transfer to a CUNY senior college?
Students who complete the CUNY Common Core and transfer into a bachelor's degree program
are required to take 6 to 12 additional credits of general education. This is called
the College Option. The number of College Option credits you ll need to complete is as follows:
- Earned Associate Degree: 6 College Option credits required
- Earned more than 30 transfer credits: 9 College Option credits required
- Earned 30 or fewer transfer credits: 12 College Option credits required
What about transferring to a non-CUNY college or university?
The CUNY Common Core/Pathways refers to CUNY colleges only. However, Kingsborough
Community College has many articulation agreements with institutions outside of CUNY,
which help ensure a smooth transfer process. Click here for more information on transfer opportunities at SUNY and private institutions.
