Raised $7,500 for Comic Book Company
Patrick Hickey, KCC English lecturer, and business partner John Svedese raised over
$7,500 for their comic book company, Legacy Comix, which launched in November 2021.
With a planned six-comic run on the table, they knew they needed funds to make it
happen. The two created a Kickstarter campaign hoping to raise $2,500 for publishing,
but instead raised triple the amount.
When asked about the impetus for starting this project, Patrick recounts, "Over the
last five years, I’ve had my journalistic and non-fiction work added to the libraries
of Harvard, Yale, Stanford and over 150 other libraries worldwide. I’ll never stop
writing to educate, but I felt it was time to dream more. These stories have been
on my mind for a long time and I felt like this was the time to take my shot at fiction.”
Patrick and his partner received nearly three times what they asked for. “This means
we’ll have enough to put out more than our initial print run. To get this much support
was amazing. In the end, it's an opportunity for this Kingsborough graduate-turned-professor
to have a legacy in comic books."
