Sculpture Concentration
Sculpture
The Sculpture concentration at Kingsborough Community College establishes a foundational
knowledge of sculpture as well as preparing for further advancement in sculpture and
art education. This hands-on concentration focuses on 3D Design, sculpting from observation,
sculpting original works of art, and sculpting the human figure, as well as using
sculpture as a powerful means of visual communication and expression.
The sculpture program offers a large, well-lit studio, and you will have access to
use the facilities, tools and storage for your work. You will learn how to use a variety
of materials including clay, plaster, steel, plastics, found objects, and mixed media. Among
the many techniques you will learn are sculpting and firing clay, using armatures,
mold-making and casting, stone carving, welding, and 3D and structural fabrication.
Students in this field, after further study, traditionally pursue careers in studio art and teaching. Many other career options exist, however, in special effects, industrial design, art fabrication, scene production, studio assistance and management, art handling, and more.
