President’s Weekly Messages

First. Focused. Finished

Monday, November 8, 2021

Dear  KCC Students,

Today is  National First-Generation College Celebration Day! Today we recognize students who are the first person in their families to attend college and graduates who are they first in their family to earn a college degree.

I am not the first person in my family to go to college, but I was still fearful and overwhelmed and I felt lost when I got there.  I can only imagine how students who are the first in their families to go to college feel.  I am pretty sure  you experienced a wide range of emotions.  You went from doubt to determination; from being fearful to being focused and from panicking to be proud that you have made a decision that will not only change your life, but change the lives of others in your family.  Today we celebrate you not just because you are the first, we celebrate you because are blazing a trail for others to follow ensuring that you will not be the last to earn a college degree.

KCC students, whether you are a first-generation college student or not, finish this semester out strong.  The finish line is in sight. You can do it. We are here to help and celebrate you when you do!
