Let's get it started! Welcome Back!

Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 7:40 AM

Dear KCC Students,

Welcome to a new academic year!   As fate would have it and according to the Chinese Zodiac, 2021 is the Year of the Ox.  This year is predicted to be a year of endurance, and a time when dreams will take shape. It is also a year for regrouping, recharging and recommitting to your goals and investments in your success.  And you are on well your way, because you have decided to start or continue your academic journey at Kingsborough Community College.  Let’s get into it!

Kingsborough is Brooklyn’s only Community College and we have only one thing on our mind… your success.  Our outstanding faculty are among the very best the University has within its folds.  They will challenge you to think critically and mentor you so you can grow professionally.  The incredible staff at Kingsborough are here to support you every step of the way; from advisors who help you stay on track towards meeting your academic goals to career and transfer advisors who help you to ascend to even greater heights.  No need goes unmet at KCC.  Having a rough time and you need someone to talk to? Our personal counselors, and staff in the Women’s Center, Men Resource Center, and SafeZone are here for you.  Experiencing some financial or personal hardships? Our Access and Resource Center, Food Pantry, and emergency student grants may be able to give you some relief. Having a hard time in a class? Our Kingsborough Learning Center (KLC) offers free tutoring online and in-person. Want to get involved in the life of the College?  Join one of our athletic teams, link up with a member of the KCC Student Government Association (SGA) or check out our Office Student Life whose line up of online and in person  activities will connect you to new people who are on the same mission that you are: earning a college degree!

Even though we are with you every step of the way, this is a journey that you have to take the lead on. That means seeking help when you need it.   It means connecting with your professors before or after class or during their office hours.    It means taking advantage of opportunities that come your way.  And, my personal favorite… it means checking your email on a regular basis.   Email is the number one way that the college is able to share important information, remind you about critical dates and deadlines and notify you about resources to support your success.   We also use social media: Facebook and Instagram to share information.  Consider signing up and following the college on FB @CUNYkcc and IG @CUNYkcc or me on IG @kingsboroughpres

This has been a tumultuous year and we are still in uncertain times.  The best way for us to emerge from this period successfully and maintain our health and safety is to continue to follow the University and College protocols.  For more information visit https://www.kbcc.cuny.edu/campusentry/index.html.

Equally as important to us as your success is our six college values. As a KCC student you too will now join us in practicing Respect for differences; promoting Diversity and fostering inclusion; acting with Integrity; exemplifying Excellence; demonstrating Accountability for your actions; and Innovating in ways that help you to enhance your development.

I speak on behalf of the faculty and staff of the College when I say that we are so proud of your decision to obtain a college degree at Kingsborough Community College and we are committed to ensuring that you do so.

I see great things for you this year and beyond.  Let’s get it started!

Have a great semester!
