Message to the Campus

Kingsborough Community College 60th Commencement

Tuesday, January 14, 2025
Dear KCC Community,
In honor of the 60th Commencement of Kingsborough Community College on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, I am writing with exciting news about the event.
First, I would like to express my appreciation in advance to the members of this year’s
Commencement Planning Committee, as follows:
Committee members
Keisha Thompson, Chair- Faculty (BEH)
Linda McKernan, Co-Chair, Events
Melissa Merced, Co-Chair, Student Life
Hernesha Jean Baptiste, Student
Shaquana Young, Student
Nadine Browne, President's Office
Cheryl Todmann, Communications and Marketing
Andres Escobar, Finance and Administration
Kenneth Greene, Public Safety
Avery Mullen, Registrar
Maria Patestas, Institutional Advancement
Peter Santiago, Access-Ability Services
Chris Calafiore, Communications & Performing Arts
Second, I am thrilled to announce that the event will take place at the beautiful
and historic Coney Island Amphitheater. I can’t think of a better location to celebrate our 60th Commencement. This venue
not only honors Kingsborough's long history in South Brooklyn but also provides an
exciting setting for us to recognize our students and families.
Organizing commencement ceremonies on campus has become increasingly difficult. Our
tents are unstable and require expensive, bulky counterweights that obstruct access
and views. Additionally, June's rising temperatures make it essential to provide shaded
areas for our guests. Ultimately, hosting the event at the Coney Island Amphitheater
will cost the college less than holding it on campus. This change will not only help
us save money but also allow for more creativity in how we allocate our budget.
Please mark your calendar for June 18 and stay tuned for additional changes. There will be more opportunities for staff
and faculty participation, with more pomp and celebration! We look forward to a fabulous
and exciting 60th Commencement.
Warm regards,
Suri Duitch
Interim President
