KCC’s Aging Library To Receive $450,000 For Upgrades
Kingsborough Community College (KCC) was awarded $450,000 in capital funding from the Office of Brooklyn Borough President Adams to advance vital upgrades to the campus’ aging library.
Built in 1976, Kingsborough’s Robert J. Kibbee Library and Media Center encompasses the most heavily used spaces on campus. The current capital project, which addresses the Library’s exterior, is in its initial stages and will take years to complete. The immediate concern is the Library’s interior. There is a need to replace existing flooring and worn furniture, original to the building and now 45 years old.
“With these funds, I am confident your library upgrade project will further enrich our borough and make a lasting positive impact in Brooklyn,” Borough President Eric Adams stated in the award letter.
“We are grateful to Borough President Adams for the investment in Kingsborough, our students and the Kibbee Library, said KCC President Claudia Schrader. She added that “historically, as a symbol of the pursuit of knowledge, libraries have always had special significance on college campuses. Their importance is just paramount today as it provides our students with a place to enhance their learning as they work hard to achieve their goals.”
The Kibbee Library provides students private study rooms, access to a wide range of books, periodicals, and search engines to access a broader array of materials. In addition, the Library is home to a student computer lab, media services and a learning labs which offers instruction in foreign languages as well as academic support.
“We truly appreciate the funding provided by Borough President Adams,” added Vice President Eduardo Rios. “He has been a huge supporter of Kingsborough Community College and our students. The funds will go a long way to helping upgrade the interior of our Library,”
