Dean for Student Success Programs

Joining Kingsborough Community College as the associate dean for student success programs in August 2019, Dr. Yelena Bondar was named dean for student success programs in September 2021. She oversees advisement, CUNY’s Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) at Kingsborough, the Kingsborough Learning Center, immersion, the Honors Program, academic appeals, transfer planning, CUNY Start/Math Start, and academic probation support.

With nearly 25 years of higher education experience, she has dedicated her career to the success of students, with a special focus on first-generation, underrepresented and academically underprepared student populations. Her administrative focus is on data-driven decision making and planning, and working across areas in a creative and holistic manner to deliver results-driven support services for all students.

Before coming to KCC, Dr. Bondar held various positions in student affairs, enrollment management and academic affairs. Most recently, she established and expanded the ASAP and Math Start programs at CUNY’s New York City College of Technology. She has also served as assistant dean for academic affairs and director of inter-collegiate relations at Polytechnic University; associate director of First Year Programs at CUNY’s Bronx Community College; and director of academic advisement at CUNY’s Queensborough Community College.

Dr. Bondar earned a B.A. in English language arts from Hunter College, an M.A. in student personnel administration in higher education from New York University, and an Ed.D. in education leadership with a concentration in higher education administration from Northeastern University. Her research interests include the support of single-parent students and holistic advisement processes.
