Office of Community Standards

Welcome to the Office of Community Standards

The Office of Community Standards is responsible for acting on behalf of Kingsborough Community College and the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs in matters pertaining to student conduct and discipline. The Office of Community Standards deals with alleged instances of student misconduct and academic dishonesty on campus by determining the best resolution for a given situation while remaining consistent with the goals and mission of Kingsborough Community College as an institution of higher learning.

Our Mission:

The mission of the Office of Community Standards is to educate students and protect the rights, health, and safety of all members of the Kingsborough Community College community. We encourage and support a civil and holistic learning environment that fosters personal growth and the development of life skills by holding students accountable for actions and behaviors inconsistent with the scope of the Kingsborough Community College community. This process aims to address inconsistent behavior in an approach that informs students and guides them toward a greater sense of personal responsibility, decision-making, and acceptable community standards.

Our Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will understand their rights and responsibilities as a student at Kingsborough Community College and that the health and safety of all students is our upmost priority.

  2. Students will learn how to support a civil and holistic learning environment that fosters personal growth and the development of life skills.

  3. Students that participate in the conduct process will be able to articulate the Henderson's Rules to Maintain Public Order and how their actions violate the core values of Kingsborough Community College campus.

  4. Students that participate in the conduct process will learn a greater sense of personal responsibility and appropriate decision making tactics to prevent future violations from occurring.

  5. Faculty members will be able to utilize different resources on classroom management to lower the amount of disruptive students and behaviors in the classroom environment.
