Dear College Community.
As you know COVID-19 has brought with it devastating personal losses for many of us, and dramatic changes to our way of life and work. The University has also experienced its share of challenges and uncertainties. Over the past few months in response to some of these challenges, we froze searches and curbed OTPS spending. However, and unfortunately, in the face of this current and impending financial climate, we must take additional steps.
To this end, a number of part-time staff members will not be reappointed and others will only be reappointed for the month of July. We anticipate, if our fiscal forecast becomes clearer and more stable, to be able to extend reappointments for August, and hopefully rehire PT staff for the fall.
We understand the impact of non-reappointments. As such, we have prepared a variety of resources to support affected employees and the Office of Human Resources stands ready to provide guidance as needed. Colleagues, the decision not to reappoint members of this community was a difficult one to make. We anticipate receiving information about CUNY’s budget soon and I will share it with the college community when it becomes available.
I sincerely hope to see the tides turn in favor of the critical work that we do here at Kingsborough and throughout the University. Please know that I am grateful that I can count on your commitment to the College and our students during this time and as we look toward the new academic year. With reports of rising numbers of infections in a number of states across the country, and with the increasing return to normalcy here in NYC, I trust that you will continue to exercise the necessary precautions to maintain social distancing, and to protect yourself and others by wearing a mask in public.
