Welcome to the Mental Health and Human Services Program

The Mental Health and Human Services Program is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in human service fields such as social work, psychology, counseling, mental health, rehabilitation, and special education. Our faculty is drawn from the fields of psychology, counseling and social work.

We offer courses in counseling, social policy, group leadership, domestic violence, and gerontology, and we prepare students with hands-on experience in two semester-long internship courses in a human service placement. The emphasis is on learning ways of helping people to lead satisfying, productive lives, to prevent and treat serious emotional and psychological problems, and to intervene with social conditions to expand access, equity, and health.

Upon completion of the program, our students have gone on to human service, social work and psychology programs at a wide range of four-year colleges, including Adelphi University, Brooklyn College, Hunter College, John Jay College, Lehman College, Mount Holyoke College, New York City Technical College, New York University, York College, and many others. Many of our students continue their education to MSW and Ph.D. levels.
