Gila Rohr
Interim Executive Director, Human Resources
Currently serving as interim executive director of human resources at Kingsborough Community College, Gila Rohr began her career at KCC in 1992 as a returning adult student with three children. Enabled by the opportunity to have her youngest attend the College’s Child Development Center while she took classes, she earned her AAS degree. Rohr began working at the Center as a part-time assistant teacher and, in 1999, was hired in the Office of Human Resources. Meanwhile, she pursued her bachelor’s degree in psychology in the evenings at the College of Staten Island.
Rohr is responsible for directing the College’s human resources functions in accordance with federal, state and local employment laws, as well as University and College bylaws, policies, rules, regulations, and contractual agreements. Among her duties is overseeing the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of new employees; the maintenance of time and leave records, performance reviews, and mandated staff trainings; processing employee benefits; managing employee issues, such as disputes and conflict resolution; and processing leaves of absence, separations, unemployment, and retirements.
The most fulfilling aspect of her job, in her opinion, is knowing that she has contributed to improving the employee experience, whether through benefits, programs, offering support and guidance, or just by helping someone land their dream job.
