Asif Hussain
Assistant Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO)
Assistant Vice President and Chief Information Officer Asif Hussain joined Kingsborough Community College in 2006. By taking a hands-on, problem-solving approach, Hussain has been able to chair and align the Information Technology Services with the College’s strategic priorities. His IT leadership was most notable throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, guiding the quick shift of student classes and employee work to a completely remote work environment.
He has overseen multiple IT-related projects and infrastructure upgrades, including increasing the capacity of lab/classroom computers from 1,300 to 3,000 and reconfiguring rooms with specialized furniture to accommodate special needs students.
His efforts were instrumental in obtaining $4.7 million in Department of Labor funding and over $2 million in capital funds for IT infrastructure, IP surveillance, the Holocaust Center, and digital signage. One of the few community colleges with 100 percent smart classrooms and labs, the College has been cited as one of the top 10 in the nation in the use of digital technologies among community colleges with more than 10,000 students.
Under his leadership, the College’s released and upgraded CUNYfirst; set up a state-of-the-art IP security surveillance system; created a single card system for access control, release print jobs, and track attendance; and completely overhauled infrastructure resulting in a 10 GB self-healing network with multiple core switches and top-down redesign of a wireless network to support “bring your own devise” (BYOD) initiatives and more.
Hussain worked in IT for the State of New York and Local Initiatives Support Corporation before joining KCC. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from NED University and a master’s in computer science from CUNY’s City College.
