Kingsborough Community College 2025-2030 Strategic Plan Development Process

KCC is undertaking the development of a Strategic Plan to guide the College during the years 2025-2030. Your participation in that process is welcome. On this page, you’ll find up-to-date information regarding the structure, timeline, and draft goals for the Plan.

The Executive Leadership team is currently requesting volunteers to serve on the committee for each of the five goals, as listed below. Please complete the short survey at the bottom of this page to let us know your interest in serving on a committee; surveys are due by November 1st, 2024.

Definitions:

Values: The overarching principles that guide our work as a College.
Goals: The long-term, overarching outcome that we intend to achieve by the end of the Strategic Plan.
Initiatives: The specific strategies or activities that we will engage in to help us achieve the goal.
Metrics: Data points that can measure the impact of our initiatives toward meeting goals.

      • The work of the College in working toward the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan is guided by these values. Our work is:
        • Collaborative, participatory and transparent.
        • Data-informed and technology-supported.
        • Equity-focused and respecting diversity of all types.
        • Maximizing success through operational effectiveness and strategic resource management.
        • Forging community through strategic communication and purposeful relationship building.
    • Draft Goals and example initiatives/metrics
      1. Eliminate race/ethnic achievement gaps :
        • Metrics: Achievement gap in DFWI (“DFWI” refers to grades, i.e. earning a D, F, withdrawing or receiving an incomplete) rates, retention rates, and three-year graduation rates . 
        • Conduct DFWI analyses to identify courses with large gaps in pass rates. 
        • Engage in curriculum/syllabus review to ensure diversity in curriculum. 
        • Utilize Navigate to identify and connect with students at risk of failing a course or dropping out/not returning .
      2. Support students in achieving successful workforce outcomes: 
        • Metrics: Post-graduation employment immediately after, one year after graduation .
        • Create/enhance a workshop series with a curriculum targeting workforce-based skills .
        • Build connections between industry partners and academic programs to embed workforce opportunities in programs .
      3. Prepare students for successful transfer to a four-year institution: 
        • Metrics: Post-graduation transfer rates; percentage of credits transferring to baccalaureate major, Assessment of General Education Student Learning Outcomes.*
        • Increase use of T-Rex to help students develop an academic plan to lead to successful transfer of credits toward their bachelor’s degree. 
        • Bolster advisement to provide support for students in transfer pathways .
      4. Improve student retention and timely graduation:
        • Metrics: One-semester and one-year retention rates .
        • Increase coordination and communication between advisement and faculty. 
        • Enhance Student Affairs programming to proactively engage with students.  
        • Build a first-year program that sets students up for success and encourages one-semester and one-year retention.  
      5. Support high-quality academic programs that support students’ goals and the needs of the community 
        • Metrics: New academic programs launched, Student Learning Outcomes Assessment results.* 
        • Emphasize best practices in pedagogy and curriculum development. 

        • Build connections between industry needs and curriculum priorities.
