How do you know if your course is online, hybrid or in-person?
If you are already registered, log into your CUNYFirst Student Self-Service Center to view your schedule and the instruction mode.
If you have not yet registered log into the course search in CUNYFirst to search for courses that you need to take.
There are two types of on-line classes: Asynchronous and Synchronous
- Asynchronous classes appear on the schedule without any meeting days or times and list the instruction
mode as “online”. You are not required to participate in live classes or live discussions
but must submit all work by assigned deadlines provided by the instructor. The instructor
may also provide live interaction opportunities, such as office hours.
- Synchronous classes appear on the schedule with set meeting days and times and list the instruction mode
as “online”. Students are required to be present (virtually) at the same time. These
classes meet in real-time and students must commit to being available and able to
log-in, and stay logged-in, during the entire time of the class, as scheduled.
Hybrid classes appear on the schedule with set meeting days and times and list locations for class meeting times (classroom, off-campus). There will also be additional online class components. The instruction mode appears as “hybrid”.
In-person classes appear on the schedule with set meeting days and times and list the location for the class (classroom, off-campus). The instruction mode is listed as “in person”.
Consider the following questions when you are making a choice between synchronous and asynchronous classes:
- Can you make a time commitment to being available at specific times, with a quiet
place to work and access to wifi? Or do you need the flexibility of getting work done
at times that work best for you as long as it gets done by the deadline?
- Do you learn well with more or less direct interaction with the instructor and classmates?
Do you prefer to participate in class?
- Do you have strong time-management skills and can keep yourself on track to meet deadlines with less regular interaction or do you need the stability of regular class meetings to keep you on track?

Check The Everbridge Health Screening App
The Chancellor announced the launch of the new CUNY Health Screening app Everbridge. Effective Tuesday, August 25th, Everbridge will supplement Kingsborough’s existing health screening process; temperature checks by our Public Safety EMTs will still be required at the main gate.
Effective Wednesday August 26th, all KCC students will be required to complete the daily Symptom Checker before coming into the campus. This simple Symptom Checker can be accessed from your mobile phone each day before your visit to the campus. You should only complete the daily Symptom Checker on the Everbridge Health Screening app if you have to be on campus to attend class, pickup or deliver a device, buy books or for any other reason for which you are approved and required to be on campus.
Upon completion of the daily Symptom Checker, you will receive a confirmation notification about your eligibility to enter the campus. If you are eligible to enter campus, Public Safety will be notified. Failure to complete the daily Symptom Checker and to follow this campus access policy will result in not being permitted on to campus.
Access to instructions on how to install and use Everbridge App.
